I’ve spoken about getting That Glow time and time by the use of lotions and creams as well as through everyday makeup essentials ie. Illuminators, but what about some more intensive treatments? Light therapy treatments are the new facial, and who better to get the low down on what exactly Light Therapy entails than one of the best in the biz, and my skin whisperer of choice, Melanie Grant.
She’s the skin therapist to some of the most glowing complexions in Sydney, Lara Worthington, Camilla Freeman Topper, Nicole Warne and Jessica Gomes are just a few, but its Melanie’s skin that is the the cream of the crop.
Basically, I’ll have what she’s having.
SD: What is a light therapy facial?
MG: The light therapy facial combines precise waves of LED light with customised skin peels and dermal booster infusions to create a dewy, healthy and radiant complexion. Omnilux light therapy is clinically proven to stimulate collagen and elastin, promote healing, increase hydration and blood flow, reduce inflammation and detoxify the skin. The light therapy facial is one of the treatments that really induces that signature glow we are known for.
SD: What is the experience like?
MG: This non invasive treatment is one that many actually find pleasurable. It is very relaxing, completely painless and most people fall asleep (SD: I’m one of them). The light can initially be quite bright, but you quickly acclimatise after a minute or two. Its also proven to increase serotonin levels, thus resulting in a really nice feeling of wellbeing.
SD: Is there any downtime after treatment?
MG: No downtime at all, just a radiant, dewy glow! A perfect treatment to have before an event.
SD: Which light should you ask for?
MG: At Melanie Grant, we focus on different facial treatments that use the white (830nm) or the red (633nm) light – and sometimes even both! We have a range of facials that combine the lights with potent antioxidant boosters, hydration infusions and resurfacing or brightening peels to treat a myriad of skin conditions. Everything from uneven skin tone, coarse skin texture (large pores), dehydrated, lacklustre and ruddy complexions. It’s one of those treatments that really can benefit almost all complexions!
SD: How often should you get this treatment done?
MG: I see the best results when clients complete a course of ten treatments and then a single monthly treatment to maintain your result. We also get great visible results in one off enhancement treatments – which is really popular before an event or a special occasion.
SD: What results can you expect?
MG: Session #1: A fresh, dewy glow. Session #4: This is where you should start to see a brighter, plumper, healthier complexions. Friends and family usually start to comment around the 4th or 5th session and ask what you’re doing differently. (SD: This definitely happened to me after session #4) Session #6: An improvement in texture is usually seen at number six. Tighter, finer pores – offering a smoother more luminous complexion. Session #10: Skin tone should be more even, skin texture even finer and skin should feel plump, supple and firm.
SD: And pricing?
MG: A light therapy treatment starts at $100 per session for a programme of 10 sessions or $150 each session.
